A small terraced cottage with a 6-metre x 100-metre woodland garden. It had not been tamed or landscaped, but the lure of majestic trees, a country view, a greenhouse,  and potential privacy to grow, potter, and design was irresistible.

The plot naturally divides itself into seven zones, each with different light, wind exposure, walls, or hedges. Small microclimates for seven small gardens. It has been a brilliant way to learn about planting for shade, sun, dry, and wet ground. Naturally, each of the seven areas has a different feel and a different season when they thrive.

Thankfully, 'slow gardening' is a recognised approach to landscaping and an essential and highly satisfying way to fill a space. 

My small traditional greenhouse has been unbelievably reliable for propagating and growing from seed. 

This is where 'slow gardening' met 'slow fashion'.
