Why I have used Gaelic

In Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig), colours are heavily tied to the natural environment and light. Rather than absolute shades, meaning is often determined by context.

Here are the key colours, their origins, and meanings:The Spectrum & Landscape

The use of Gaelic colours as a Scot and botanical inspired designer seemed unified. A much deeper and atmospherically descriptive tone

• Gorm (Blue / Green): This color has a fascinating origin in Celtic tradition. While it means "blue," it is also traditionally used to describe living, healthy grass and foliage. Historically, early Celtic languages grouped blue and green together under the same conceptual umbrella. 
• Glas (Grey / Green / Blue): A classic Indo-European "grue" color. In Gaelic, it often means the color of stone, mist, or a muted blue-grey landscape (often translated in Scots as "dreich"). 
• Uaine (Vivid Green): Unlike gorm, this denotes a bright, often unnatural, or supernatural shade of green. It is typically used for things like deep forest canopies, algae-filled lochs, or fairy magic. 
• Buidhe (Yellow): Derived from ancient roots referring to brightness and blooming (such as dandelions or golden gorse on the hills). 

Whites, Blacks & Greys

• Geal (White): Means a brilliant, shining, or pure white (such as snow or morning light). 
• Bàn (White): Another white, but softer. It translates closer to "pale" or "creamy" and is typically reserved for describing white hair, fur, or pale skin. [
• Dubh (Black): Used literally for a deep black and frequently applied to folklore, such as "An Aos Sidhe" (the Fairy Host) often associated with dark, magical figures. 
• Liath (Grey / Light Blue): Used for standard grey but also frequently describes the color of light-blue/grey. 

Red & Ginger

• Dearg: Means a bright, distinct red, usually referring to objects, paints, or berries.
• Ruadh (Red / Russet / Ginger): One of the most famous Gaelic color words. It is specifically reserved for living things with red/ginger hues, such as a red fox, a copper coin, or the color of a person’s hair. 

Other Colors

• Donn: Brown (like the earthy peat or the color of a horse).
• Orains: Orange
• Purpaidh: Purple
• Pinc: Pink
